Image of the month, June 2009

Crus crusIt’s never easy to pick one image…

Why did I chose this image? I’m not sure. The crane is a beautiful and magnificent bird. Maybe it’s that simple.

After I took the shot I felt that the image should be black and white. It dosen’t work i color.

I use the AF-S 600/4 on the Nikon D3. 1/1600 at f4, ISO 800 handheld.

Later in the digital darkroom I made the basic adjustments in Lightroom. In Photoshop I used Silver Efex Pro to make the image black and white.

Black & white vs color

B&W or color?

The picture shows a seagul who just caught a an insect. The photo is made June 13 2007.

Which do you prefer, black and white or color?

Common Tern

Common Tern

Last night I visited the common terns to see how the wore doing. I’m planing to use a floating hide to get closer and hopefully better images. I made some images showing them in their environment.

I used the Nikon D3, 600/4 – ISO 3200, 1/250 f4

In my backyard

2009-06-21-_DSC9212

You do not need to travel far to find pictures. The photo above is made in my backyard.

I used Nikon D3, 90/2,8, ISO 1000, 1/160 f6,3, handheld.

Magpie tracks

I’m going through my photo archive and I found this three images. It’s tracks made by Magpies. It makes me wonder what they were doing, especially if you look at the third image.

The images are made in March 2007. I used the Nikon D200 and 50 f/1,8.

What a week

Bear family

What a week!
I could never imagined that the images of the female bear with three cubs could get so much attention. Four swedish newspapers published the images and I have also received some calls from foreign newspapers.

That’s the reward for all the time I put into photography.

In my mind it is the photographer who makes the images, not the camera. But I’m impressed by what the Nikon D3 can do. The lens I used, AF-I 400/2,8 weighs around 6 kilograms and I had to set the ISO to 2500 to get fast shutter speed and a sharp image.
There is some noise in the image but it’s not so bad.

Check out the video from the evning when we meet the bear family. Stefan Silverhall made the video.

Image of the month, April 2009

2009-04-14-_dsc6158

Better late then never….

Usually I try to select one image for “image of the month”. I experienced two seasons, therefore two images.

I spent a week in the mountains. Sunny and warm days and cold nights. The image above is made in Grantonsskalet, Vilhelmina. To the left Grönfjäll (1376 m). It was a cold and windy sunset.

2009-04-29-_dsc6758

In Åsele the snow had melted and the birds starting to arrive from the south.

I used Nikon D3, 24 / 3.5 tilt & shift, 400 / 2.8.

A week in the mountains

2009-03-05-_dsc5721

Last saturday I returned home after a week in the mountains. The weather gods must have had a bad week. Dense and low clouds true the hole week.
The sun was shining drive up and when we went home.

I will return in a couple of weeks, I hope the weather will be better then.

Iza och Stefan

Stefan och IzaI visited a friend on Wednesday. When we sat and drank a cop coffee, I discovered a framed image on the wall. It’s the image the on the left.

The photograph was taken about a week before christmas in 2007. Stefan wanted a framed picture of him self together with his dog, Iza. Usually I feel uncomfortable to photograph people, especially strangers. Stefan and I  have been friends a long time so it was no problem.

The image is one of my favorites and it’s looks best mounted and framed.
